    Maile
My background is varied and I 2019ve done many things but the one constant in my life has been photography. It started in high school and continued into City College of San Francisco where I received my Associate of Science with Certificate of Completion in Photography. After graduation I moved back to San Diego where I worked as a custom color printer until being hired by the San Diego City Fire Department as one of the first female fire fighters in the United States.

While in the Fire Department I started my first freelance photo business, shooting firefighter's weddings and portrait's. Eventually I became the department 2019s PIO (public information officer) working with various media outlets and photographing fires and fire department events. After retiring I moved to Palm Springs where I again started up my photo business. I successfully ran it for 15 years shooting millionaires and movie stars. I also shot for various newspaper and glossy magazines. At the height of my work I was hiring 4-5 photographers per event to back me up and help capture the activities in their entirety. I did film festivals, charity events, tourism, journalism, portraits, weddings and any work that came my way.

I later went on to get my Bachelors degree In photojournalism and worked as a full time photojournalist at CBS channel 2. About this time I became an adjunct teacher of photography at College of the Desert and have been there close to 20 years.

Maile is available for private bookings

Available most days, Sunday included, all day. I teach in the evenings. Saturday's I am available from 2pm until 6pm.
Private tutoring, weddings, portraits, and events. Also basic camera operation and exposure, scenic/wildlife workshops and commercial photography.

    Steve Somers
Steve Somers' photography interest and experience began in 1965 at the outset of an interest in cave exploration. Like many beginners, he started with 35mm film equipment and a bit later medium format equipment. He developed his own B&W film and printed in his own darkroom. In the year 2000, he embarked into digital photography with this technology being his main and current experience for the past 26 years. His experience encompasses weddings, portraits, street, and landscape work. His primary focus is landscape photography today.
In 2022, Steve attained Certified Professional Photographer status from the Professional Photographers of America.

Steve Somers is available for private bookings

I am retired and now focus on photography work to a great degree.
My availability for private tutoring is flexible throughout the weekdays and/or weekends. If you find that you would like to dive deeper into the technical aspects beyond that which is offered in most seminars, private sessions may be just what you need.

I took this photo at Gless Ranch Orchard on Van Buren. If you go behind the storefront, there was rows of orange trees. That's where i found this beauty, an antique orange picker with all the rust and pitting form being left out in the sun for many years. Used my Canon Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM Lens. I've been back and have found other interesting photography opportunities, even the fruit that has fallen off of the trees and half eaten. Beauty in the strangest of places.

This image is a Still Life Composition of "Berries, Wine and Grapes" that I created on a rainy day in my bedroom. I used no fancy Studio Lighting at all. My only light source was a hand-held flashlight that I kept moving rapidly. It was an experiment in Light Painting when I couldn't go outside to shoot.
